Answer by scott8148(6628)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
this is a linear function of the type y=mx+b, where the y-intercept (b) is the setup cost
and the slope (m) is the cost per copy

you have two points on the line, (100,79) and (400,88)
so you can find the equation

first, the slope ___ m = (88-79)/(400-100) ___ m = 9/300 ___ m = .03
so each copy costs 3 cents

substituting ___ 79 = .03(100) + b ___ 79 = 3 + b ___ 76 = b
so the setup cost is $76

the function is ___ (cost) = .03(copies) + 76
