Question 184958: Find the solution to the system by the addition method.
20x-6y=-4 (1)
5x+2y=6 (2)

Answer by eperette(173)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
20x - 6y = -4
5x + 2y = 6
*****************
20x - 6y = -4
3(5x + 2y = 6)
*****************
20x - 6y = -4
15x + 6y = 18
add them now
35x + 0y = 14
35x/35 = 14/35
x = 14/35
*****************
go back and find y
5x + 2y = 6
5(14/35) + 2y = 6
2 - 2 + 2y = 6 - 2
0 + 2y = 4
2y/2 = 4/2
y = 2
*****************
answer (14/35, 2)
************************
check answer:
(1)20x-6y=-4
20(14/35) - 6(2)
8 - 12
-4 correct
(2)5x+2y=6
5(14/35) + 2(2)
2 + 4
6 correct
