Question 183520: Can you please help me solve this.
x-5x^1/2-36=0
Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x-5x^1/2-36=0
-------------------
Factor:
((sqrt(x)^2-9x^(1/2)+4x^(1/2)-36 = 0
------
Factor to get:
[sqrt(x)(sqrt(x -9) + 4(sqrt(x)-9)] = 0
-----
Factor again:
(sqrt(x) - 9)(sqrt(x) + 4) = 0
sqrt(x) = 9 or sqrt(x) = -4
------
sqrt(x) cannot be -4
So If sqrt(x) = 9, x = 81
