Answer by eperette(173) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2y-3x=-13
3x-17=4y
WE WILL SOLVE BY USING THE ELIMINATION METHOD ....IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO ALIGN THE X's UNDERNEATH THE X's, AND SO ON...
************
(1) REORDERING
-3x + 2y = -13
3x - 4y = 17
****************
since we have a positive and negative 3x we can add both equations to get rid of the x's
(-3x + 2y = -13)
+(3x - 4y = 17)
***********************
0x - 2y = 4
-2y/-2 = 4/-2
y = -2
***********************
go back and substitute to find into any complete equation...
-3x + 2y = -13
-3x + 2(-2) = -13
-3x - 4 = -13
-3x - 4 + 4 = -13 + 4
-3x + 0 = -9
-3x/-3 = -9/-3
x = 3
**********************
so your answer is the coordinate point (3, -2)
**********************
LETS CHECK:
-3x + 2y = -13
-3(3)+2(-2)
-9 - 4
-13 good
3x - 4y = 17
3(3)-4(-2)
9+8
17 good
