SOLUTION: Re-arrange this equation to find x in terms of y and t.
2t(x - 2t) = y(x - y)
I really need to know how to work this out and not just the answer.
I expanded the brackets t

Question 180595: Re-arrange this equation to find x in terms of y and t.
2t(x - 2t) = y(x - y)
I really need to know how to work this out and not just the answer.
I expanded the brackets to get: 2tx - 4t^2 = xy - y^2
Then I put all of the x terms on the LHS: 2tx - xy = 4t^2 - y^2
The I wasn't sure where to go after that.
The question did not come from a text book, it was a past paper question
Thanks
Answer by checkley77(12844) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2t(x - 2t) = y(x - y)
2tx-4t^2=xy-y^2
2tx-xy=4t^2-y^2
x(2t-y)=4t^2-y^2
x=(4t^2-y^2)/(2t-y)
x=(2t+y)(2t-y)/(2t-y)
x=2t+y ans.
