:
x+y=350.............eq 1
.16x+.09y=.12(350)..eq 2
:
rewrite eq 1 to x=350-y and plug it into eq 2
:
.16(350-y)+.09y=42

56-.16y+.09y=42
:
-.07y=-14
:
