To solve this you need to get the x all alone on one side of the equation. Remember if you do one thing to one side of the equation, you must do it to the other.

3x-11 = -2
3x-11 + 11 = -2 + 11
3x +0 = 9
3x=9
1/3 * 3 * x = 1/3 * 9
1*x=3
x=3
