This system is already set up without have to change either equation...If you add one equation to the other you can see that the y terms are eliminated -y+y=0. now we have 2x+x and 4-1 : 2x+x=4-1--->combine : 3x=3--->divide by 3 : : now we plug this found value into either original equation. I choose eq 2. : 1+y=3--->subtract 1 from each side : : you can also solve this by substitution!!
