Question 170935: simultaneous equations
y=2x+1
x+y=4

Answer by Mathtut(3670)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
lets rewrite the 1st equation to line up the x and y and constant terms
:
2x-y=-1...eq 1
x+y=4....eq 2
:
now lets use the process of elimination. This system is already set up without have to change either equation...If you add one equation to the other you can see that the y terms are eliminated -y+y=0. now we have 2x+x and 4-1
:
2x+x=4-1--->combine
:
3x=3--->divide by 3
:

:
now we plug this found value into either original equation. I choose eq 2.
:
1+y=3--->subtract 1 from each side
:

:
you can also solve this by substitution!!
