V=-2000t+20,000 describes the values in dollars of a certain model of car after it is t years old If a car is work $12000 substitute 12,000 into the equatio to find the age of the car.
I came up with 4 years.

12000=-2000t+20000 subtract 20000 from each side
12000-20000=-2000t+20000-20000 collect like terms
-8000=-2000t divide both sides by -2000
t=4 years
