Answer by rapaljer(4671)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Step 1: Remove parentheses by distributive property.

Step 2: Get all variable terms on one side and number terms on the other. That is, subtract 99 from each side.

Step 3: Divide both sides by the coefficient of x.

For additional explanations, please see my own website by clicking on my tutor name "rapaljer" anywhere in algebra.com. Click on the first link on my home page, which is "Basic and Intermediate Algebra: One Step at a Time." Then go to Chapter 1 of my Basic Algebra, and look for Section 1.08 Basic Equation Solving. There you will find an explanation you can finally understand!! No extra charge for keeping it simple!! See also my MATH IN LIVING COLOR sections.
