If you make any change to one side of an equation
you must make the same change to the other side, also.
That's the only rule you need.

I want to get all terms containing on one side,
so first I'll add to both sides

The on the right side equals zero

Now I want to subtract from both sides

Notice I have on the left side

On the right side,

One more step. I don't have to do anything
to the other side this time, because I didn't really change
anything, I just did the addition

Hey Angie..
Here goes the solution step by step...
if you have some more doubts you can get back to me..

h - 9 = 2h - 1

We gropu the like terms to one side.

h - 2h = -1 + 9 { that is add 9 - 2h on both sides we get}

-h = 8

or h = - 8

(multiply by - sign on both sides)

Thus the solution
