Solve one of the equations for either x or y. Then substitute
what you get in the other equation. You will get a quadratic
equation that will factor. It will have two solutions, although
the x-value of one will be the y-value of the other. Find the
other value by substituting.

If we focus on integers only, then here are all of the ways to multiply to -8
1*(-8) = -8
2*(-4) = -8
4*(-2) = -8
8*(-1) = -8

Add up each pair
1 + (-8) = -7
2 + (-4) = -2
4 + (-2) = 2
8 + (-1) = 7

Answer: The numbers are 2 and -4
