Helen earns $7.60 an hour at her job, but if she works more than 35 hours a week she is paid 1 1/2 times her regular salary for the overtime hours worked. One week, her gross pay was $380.00. How many overtime hours did she work that week?

Let the regular hours that Helen worked be
Then the overtime hours that she worked will be
In words,
gross pay = (regular hrs)(reg dollars/hr) + (overtime hrs)(overtime dollars/hr)

This is the regular hrs worked
Overtime hours worked =
Overtime hours worked =
So, Helen worked 6 hours overtime that week answer

x = number of overtime hours worked
hourly pay * hours worked = regular pay
7.6*35 = $266
gross pay - regular pay = overtime hours pay
380 - 266 = 114
overtime hours pay = 1.5 times her regular pay
114 = 1.5*7.6*x
x=10 hours overworked
