The solution from the other tutor is fine -- but very formal....
A more informal solution seems more appropriate to me.
Given the ratio science:art = 2:5, we know the number of science books is 2/5 the number of art books. So the number of science books if there are 1000 art books is just
(2/5)*1000 = 400
