x = salary (thousands of dollars) for BA degree
2x-39 = salary for MA

(x)+(2x-39) = 111

Solve using basic algebra....

NOTE: The statement of the problem is very awkward. "...two people with each of these ..." sounds like two people with BA degrees and two other people with MA degrees.
