Question 1183035: Weather balloons are filled with hydrogen and released at various sites to measure and transmit data about conditions such as air pressure and temperature. A weather balloon is filled with hydrogen at the rate of 0.5 ft3/s. Initially, the balloon has 4 ft3 of hydrogen.
(a) Find a linear function V that models the volume of hydrogen in the balloon at any time t.
V(t) =

(b) If the balloon has a capacity of 21 ft3, how long does it take to completely fill the balloon?
s

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.

(a) Write the function as you read the problem

         V(t) = 4 + 0.5*t cubic feet,

where "t" is the time in seconds from the starting moment.

Each second, the volume increases by 0.5 cubic feet.

(b) To answer this question, you solve the equation

         V(t) = 21 ft^3,

     or

        4 + 0.5*t = 21.

     The solution is t = %2821-4%29%2F0.5 = 17%2F0.5 = 34 seconds. ANSWER
