Answer by greenestamps(13198) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2 more pounds of oranges than apples:
x = pounds of apples
x+2 = pounds of oranges
Apples cost twice as much per pound as oranges:
y = cost per pound of oranges
2y = cost per pound of apples
the total cost of the apples
the total cost of the oranges
ANSWER:
x=10 pounds of apples (at $0.88 per pound)
x+2=12 pounds of oranges (at $0.44 per pound)
CHECK:
cost of apples: 10($0.88)=$8.80
cost of oranges: 12($0.44)=$5.28
