In 5 years a boy (age y now) will be two-third as old as his uncle now (x)

Three years ago he was half as old as the uncle is now.

Write as You read:

y + 5 = (2/3)x

y - 3 =x/2   |multiply 2nd EQ by -1 to eliminate y



y + 5 = (2/3)x

-y + 3 = - x/2 

8 = (1/6)x

x = 48 , uncles age NOW

y + 5 = (2/3)48

u + 5 = 32

y = 27, boys age NOW

Checking our Answer:

y-3 = x/2

24 = 24  Checks!
