Question 1172849: Solve for x in terms of a and b: x+3y=a ; 2x+5y=b.

Answer by Boreal(15235)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
3y=a-x;15y=5a-5x
5y=b-2x; 15y=3b-6x
so 5a-5x=3b-6x
3b-5a=x
-
let a=2 and b=3; x should equal 3b-5a=9-10=-1
then x+3y=2
and 2x+5y=3
so 5x+15y=10
and -6x-15y=-9
-x=1
x=-1
