Question 1165686: please help me im confused on how to do it.
For f(x)= x^4-3x^2-8 us the Intermediate Value Theorem to determine which interval must conatin a zero of f.
A. between 0 and 1
B. between 1 and 2
C. between 2 and 3
D. between 3 and 4

Answer by Theo(13342)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
the equation is f(x) = x^4 - 3x^2 - 8

when x = 0, f(x) = -8
when x = 1, f(x) = -10
when x = 2, f(x) = -4
when x = 3, f(x) = 46

looks like a zero of f is between x = 2 and x = 3.

the graph of the equation is shown below.
