Question 1163908: A bee flies at 12 feet per second directly to a flowerbed from its hive. The bee stays at the flowerbed for 16 minutes and then flies directly back to the hive at 8 feet per second. It is away from the hive for a total of 19 minutes.
a) What equation can you use to find the distance of the flowerbed from the hive?
b) How far is the flowerbed from the hive?
c) Write the equation. Let D be the distance of the flowerbed from the hive.
(** Use integers or fractions for any numbers in the equation. Do not simplify.)

.

(a) The equation is so called "time equation"

           + 16*60 +  = 19*60  seconds

(b) To determine the distance D, solve the equation

           +  = 19*60 - 16*60 = 3*60,

     multiply both sides by 24

          2D + 3D  = 3*60*24

          5D       = 4320

          D        = 4320/5 = 864 ft.      ANSWER

(c) I just answered all questions.

In my previous version, I missed dimensions, using minutes instead of seconds.

Thanks to tutor @greenestamps, who noticed this inconsistency.

I corrected it, and now you see the corrected version.
