The terms "x"  and  "-x"  will cancel each other, and you will get


    -4y = -8;   hence,  y =  = 2.


Substitute the found value y= 2 into the second equation.  You will get then


    -x + 2 = 4;   hence,  -x = 4-2 = 2,   or  x = -2.


ANSWER.  x= -2;  y= 2.
