Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
on the return flight, the plane cruised at 289 kph for 10 hours.
rate * time = distance.
on the return flight, this equation becomes:
289 * 10 = 2890 kilometers.
on the flight going, this equation becomes:
214 * x = 2890
solve for x to get x = 2890 / 214 = 13.5046729 hours.
that's your solution.
you used the return flight to find the distance.
then you used the distance to find the time of the going flight.

Planes (and boats) don't use kph, they use knots for speed.
========
when I flew helicopters, we used knots for speed, our altimeters were in feet, and all the maps were in kilometers, with altitudes in meters.

Made things interesting, even when not being shot at.

PS No matter where you fly, ATC and the tower have to be able to speak English.
