Question 1141853: Linear function 1 has the equation y=16−2x. Linear function 2 passes through the points (4, 2) and ( - 4, k). What must be the value of k for the case where the two linear functions have the same x - intercept?
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
LF 1 has an x-intercept at (8, 0), because when x=8, y=0 (x-axis)
LF 2 has two known points, at (4, 2) and (8, 0)
slope between these is -2/4 or -1/2
point slope formula y-y1=m(x-x1), m slope and (x1, y1) a point
y=-(1/2)(x-8)
y=-(1/2)x+4 is the function
when x=-4, y or k, the answer, is 6
