Question 1139274: A 1-pound box of crackers is priced at $2.69. Convert this price per pound (lb) to dollars per ounce (oz) so that it can be compared to the price of different-sized boxes. (Round answer to two decimal places. 1 lb. = 16 oz.)
I think I would have to divide in this situation? I might be wrong. I’m generally really bad at word problems.

You already know 1 pound is 16 ounces. You ask, does one multiply or divide?

Which of these makes sense to you?

In terms of just units:
[ dollars/pound ] x [ pounds/ounces ] = [ dollars/ounce ]
Now plug in the numbers:
[ 2.69 dollars / 1 pound ] x [ 1 pound / 16 ounces ] = [ .17 dollars/ounce ]
$.17 /ounce
