Question 1134677: (8 pts) Let f(x)=(5x^2-20)/(x^2-16). (no explanations required)
(a) State the y-intercept.

(b) State the x-intercept(s).

(c) State the vertical asymptote(s).

(d) State the horizontal asymptote.

Answer by mathsolverplus(88)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a) y-intercept occurs when x = 0,
f(0) = -20/-16 = 5/4
Y-int: (0, 5/4)
b) x-intercept occurs when the numerator = 0

x = 2 and -2
x-int: (2,0) and (-2, 0)
c) Vertical asymptote occurs when the denominator = 0

Vertical asymptotes: x = 4 and x = -4
d) Horizontal Asymptote
We only compare the highest degree of the numerator and that of the denominator:
Horizontal asymptote = = 5
Horizontal asymptote: y=5
