Question 1127834: Two different mixtures of gasoline are available, one with 5% alcohol by volume and the other containing 12% alcohol. How many litres of the 12% mixture must be added to 765 L of the 5% mixture to produce a mixture containing 9%alcohol?
Answer by ikleyn(52781)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
Let x = "How many litres of the 12% mixture must be added to 765 L of the 5% mixture to produce a mixture
containing 9% alcohol" is the value under the question.

Then your equation is

0.12x + 0.05*765 = 0.09*(x+765).

saying that the sum of amounts of the pure alcohol in ingredients is equal to that in the mixture.

Simplify and solve for x.
