Question 1115174: I am just confused about how to do equations.
Answer by addingup(3677) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
an equation is a mathematical expression that has two perfectly balanced sides, they have the sign = between them.
You must keep them balanced, so whatever you do to one side you also do to the other.
Example:
x-3 = 5, find the value of x.
Let's add 3 to both sides
x-3+3 = 5+3 on the left -3 and +3 cancel each other and you get:
x = 5+3 = 8
x = 8
Is this correct? Let's check the original equation:
x-3 = 5 substitute the x with 8
8-3 = 5 Correct
