I have tried this a couple different times and this is as close as I can get but I dont think it is right. Can you please help me.
3(x-6)=2(x+2)
3x-6=2x+2
3x-3x-6=2x+3x+2
6=5x+2
6+2=5x
8+5x
1.6=x
Can you please tell me what I did wrong? THank you very much for your help!!!

Solve for x:
3(x-6) = 2(x+2) Apply the distributive property to both sides. Remember! The number outside the parentheses multiplies BOTH terms inside, not just the first term.3(x-6) = 3*x-3*6 = 3x-18 and 2(x+2) = 2*x+2*2 = 2x+4
3x-18 = 2x+4 Now subtract 2x from both sides.
x-18 = 4 Finally, add 18 to both sides.
x = 22
Now do you see your mistake...quite a common error for newcomers to the distributive property.
