Question 1103442: One number is three more than another number. The sum of the two numbers is 33. Find the numbers.
Answer by greenestamps(13200) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Take away the 3 "extra" on the larger number.
That leaves you with two numbers that are the same and whose sum is 30.
That means the two numbers are each 15.
Now give back the 3 you took away from the larger number.
The numbers are 15 and 18.
The algebraic solution below does EXACTLY the same calculations to find the answer.
Let the two numbers be x and x+3. Then
x = 15; x+3 = 18
