Question 1064416: In a certain aquarium area live only white sharks and hammerhead shraks. In this area, there are 341 more white sharks than hammerhead sharks. If the total number of sharks in this area is 597, how many white sharks are there in this area?'. Somebody can help me please, i need to do the equations...please!!
Answer by Theo(13342) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
w = number of white sharks
h = number of hammerhead shards.
w = h + 341 (first equation)
w + h = 597 (second equation)
replace w in the second equation with h + 341 from the first equation.
second equation becomes (h + 341) + h = 597
solve for h to get h = 128.
w = h + 341 becomes w = 128 + 341 which becomes w = 469
w + h becomes 469 + 128 = 597
solution looks good.
number of white sharks is 469
number of hammerhead sharks is 128
