Answer by MathTherapy(10552)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!

-6(1+7k) + 7(1+6k)<-2
-6 -42k +7 + 42k < -2
1<2
what am i doing wrong, my Ks went away?
- 6(1 + 7k) + 7(1 + 6k) < - 2
- 6 - 42k + 7 + 42k < -2
1 < 2
You didn't do anything wrong. The variable, k went away, but as you can see the final "product" is an INEQUALITY that's TRUE. That's because - 42k + 42k = 0.
This means that you can substitute ANY VALUE for k and it'll be 1. I repeat, regardless of the value you substitute for k, the value on the left side WILL ALWAYS be 1. Try it!!
This means the INEQUALITY has:
