Let x be the price per yard for nylon carpet and
y be the price per yard for wool carpet.
20x + 28y = 1300
15x + 20y = 945
multiply the top equation by 3, and the bottom equation by -4
60x + 84y = 3900
-60x -80y = -3780
Add the equations
4y = 120
divide each side by 4
y = 30
Substitute 30 for y in 15x + 20y = 945
15x + 20(30) = 945
15x + 600 = 945
add -600 to each side
15x = 345
x = 23
So nylon carpet is $23.00 per
wool carpet is $30 per
