Answer by Earlsdon(6294)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Solve:
10+3(x+2) = 31 First, subtract 10 from both sides.
3(x+2) = 21 Now divide both sides by 3.
x+2 = 7 Finally, subtract 2 from both sides.
x = 5
Check: Substitute x = 5.
10+3(5+2) = 31
10+3(7) = 31
10+21 = 31
31 = 31

Answer by dfrazzetto(283)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Allstar is completely wrong.
Expanding the equation, distribute(multiply) the 3:
10 + 3(x+2) = 31
10 + 3x + 6 = 31
3x + 16 = 31 (subtract 16 from both sides)
3x = 15
x = 5
Plug back into original equation to check:
10 + 3(5+2) = 31
10 + 3(7) = 31
10 + 21 = 31 √ Correct
