In the equation of a parabola,
changing a makes the parabola narrower or wider and will turn it upside-down if a < 0.
Changing h moves the vertex left or right and changing k moves the vertex up or down.

a compresses the graph as it becomes larger. If positive, a makes it U shaped, if negative the opposite.
the vertex is (-h,k)
The ones on the right have vertex (3,3), with equation (x-3)^2+3 and -(x-3)^2-3. The other one has equation (x+2)^2-4, so its vertex is (-2,-4) and is U shaped.
