Hi there,
2x^2 - 10x - 3 = 0
Move the 3 to other side of equal sign.
2x^2 - 10x = 3
Divide through by number before x^2
x^2 - 5x = 3/2
Take half of the -5 = - 2 1/2 = - 5/2
and square it = 6 1/4 = 25/4
Add this square to both sides
of the equation.
x^2 - 5x + 25/4 = 3/2 + 25/4
x^2 - 5x + 25/4 = (25 + 6)/4
x^2 - 5x + 25/4 = 31/4
(x - 5/2)^2 = 31/4
Square root both sides
x - 5/2 = √31/√4
x - 5/2 = √31/2
x = 5/2 +/- √31/2
..............
x = 5/2 + √31/2
x = 5.28
x = 5/2 - √31/2
x = -0.28
Hope this helps you. :-)
