Question 1029938: Hi, I'm having trouble understanding and solving this problem:
f(x)= x^2 + 9 is shown.
Which interval of x restricts the domain of f(x) such that f^-1(x) exists?

Answer by stanbon(75887)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
f(x)= x^2 + 9 is shown.
Which interval of x restricts the domain of f(x) such that f^-1(x) exists?
---------
y = x^2 + 9 is a parabola symmetric to the y-axis.
It's inverse would be a parabola symmetric to the x-axis
and that is not a function.
-----
But it's inverse would be a function if you restrict
x to [0,+oo) for f(x).
