3n - 5 = 19.

Add 5 to both side. You will get an equivalent equation

3n = 19 + 5.

Simplify:

3n = 24.

Divide both sides by 3. You will get

n = = 8.

It is your solution.

3n-5 = 19

3n   = 24

Divide both sides by 3 to get rid of the coefficient of 3:



Cancel the 3's on the left and divide 24 by 3
