Make the shorter piece = 'x'
longer piece = 15 + 2x
x + (15 + 2x) = 120 cm
x + 15 + 2x = 120
collect like terms
x + 2x = 120 - 15
3x = 105
x = 35 cm
Shorter piece = 35 cm
Longer piece = 85 cm
