Question 1018586: At a family gathering there are 100 people. There are 4 less than twice as many women as men and 6 more children as both combined. How many children are at the gathering?
Answer by JulietG(1812)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let W = women, M = men, C = children
W + M + C = 100
W = 2M - 4 (the wording is odd???)
C = 2(W + M) + 6
Therefore, C = 2W + 2M + 6
Go back to the top equation
W + M + (2W + 2M + 6) = 100
3W + 3M + 6 = 100
3W + 3M = 94
Substitute the known value of W
3(2M-4) + 3M = 94
6M - 12 + 3M = 94
9M -12 = 94
9M = 106
M = 11.77
Hmmmm...can't have part of a man
Can you check the wording to the problem and type is exactly as written? This sentence is odd: There are 4 less than twice as many women as men and 6 more children as both combined.
