Question 1016763: The distance between port M and port N is 162m. A ship left port M with a speed of 45 mph. In 45 minutes another ship left port N and went towards the first ship with a speed of 36 mph. How long after the departure of the first ship will the two ships meet?
I got 1 hr and 15 mins, but that isn't correct. Thanks for the help!

Answer by macston(5194)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
(0.75 hr)(45mph)=33.75 miles
162 mi-33.75 mi=128.25
When ship B leaves port N, the ships are 128.25 miles apart.
.
Combined speed is (45 mph + 36 mph=) 81 mph.
.
128.25 mi/81 mph=1.58 hours
.
ANSWER: The ships will meet 1.58 hours after the
second ship leaves port.
