Question 1016272: sorry that this is in the wrong section...the question is... “Consider the graph y =x^3. Find the slope of the secant line between the points corresponding to x = -1.”
What does x = -1 mean? What do I do with x = -1? how do I find the slope of the secant line between the points corresponding to x = -1?
In order to find the slope of a secant line I have to have two points along the curve of a function?

Mistake in the description which was given to you. y=x^3 is a function. No value of the domain is repeated. No value of the range either is repeated. Maybe recheck the actual description in case you misread it.

Here is the graph of y = x^3
:
if x is -1, then y = -1 and the point is (-1, -1)
:
now chose a small increment to x, -1.1, then y = -1.331
:
slope = (-1.331 -(-1)) / (-1.1 -(-1)) = -0.331 / -0.1 = 3.31
