2/3k-(k+1/4)=1/12(k+4)
combine like terms and use the properties to get the variable on one side of the equals sign and the numbers on the other side. Remember to follow the order of operations.
(-1) (k + 1/4) + 2/3 k = 1/12 (k + 4)
multiply -1 times k + 1/4;
(-1) k - 1/4 + 2/3 k = 1/12 (k + 4)
multiply 1/12 times k+4;
(-1) k - 1/4 + 2/3 k = 1/12 k + 1/3
multiply -k to 2k/3;
(-1/3) k - 1/4 = 1/12 k + 1/3
add 1/4 to both sides of the equation;
(-1/3) k = 1/12 k + 7/12
subtract k from both sides of the equation;
(-5/12) k = 7/12
Divide both sides of the equation by -5/12, which is the same as multiplying both sides by the reciprocal of the fraction k = -7/5
So our solution is:
k= -7/5
= -1.4
Good Luck!
