Question 1005728: the length of a rectangle is twice the width. If the perimeter is 20cm, find the area

Call length and width, L and W. We have
L = 2W and
perimeter P = 2L + 2W = 20
Substitute the first into the second equation and get
2(2W) + 2W = 20
4W + 2W = 20
6W = 20
W = 20/6 = 10/3 = 3 1/3 cm
L = 6 2/3 cm
