6x-42+xy-7y Group the first two terms and last two terms.
(6x-42)+(xy-7y) Factor the GCF out of each.
6(x-7)+y(x-7) Factor the x-7 out
(6+y)(x-7)
(y+6)(x-7) is the same as above
