Can someone please help me with
this problem? I need to divide
and round the quotient to
the nearest thousandth:
6 1/7 divided by 3/14
Thanks,
Sher

6 1/7 ÷ 3/14

   1 3
6 --- ÷ ----
   7 14

Change the mixed number
to an improper fraction:

  43 3
 ---- ÷ ----
   7 14

Invert the second fraction
and change division to
multiplication:

  43 14
 ---- × ----
   7 3

Cancel the 7 into the 14:

          2
  43 14
 ---- × ----
   7 3
   1

Multiply numerators
and denominators:

   86
  ----
    3

Divide numerator by denominator and
carry to one more place than thousandths.

  28.6666
3)86.0000
  6
  26
  24
   2 0
   1 8
     20
     18
      20
      18
       20
       18
        2

28.6666 rounds off to 28.667
because the first digit
eliminated was a 6 and when
the first digit eliminated
is 5 or more, then the last
digit retained is increased by 1.

Answer: 28.667
