Best way to tell you is give you an example:
2x+3=13 First step is to subtract 3 from both sides to get:
2x=10 Second step is divide both sides by 2 to get:
x=5 There we go. 2 steps. The whole key to algebra is getting the letter "x" all alone on one side of the = sign.
