Question 411531: Besides counting up the decimal places, how else can you determine where the decimal will go in a product? For example, if you have 2.81 x 3.17 and you use 281 x 317 = 89077, how could you determine where the decimal should go?
Answer by CubeyThePenguin(3113) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2.81 * 3.17
There are two numbers after the decimal point in 2.81 and two numbers after the decimal point in 3.17.
Add to get 4, so you would put the decimal point after 4 digits in 89077 starting from the right.
2.81 * 3.17 = 8.9077
