: To make a scale model showing the distance of the four bodies from the Earth, a student marks the sun 1cm from the Earth.
Earth Sun
*____*____________________________
0 10^8 Distance from the earth (miles)
Sun has 10^8 approximate distance from Earth (miles), Saturn has 10^9, Andromeda galaxy (nearest major galaxy) has 10^19 and Quasar OQ172(one of the remotest objects known) has 10^22.
How far along the line should the other three celestial bodies be placed?
The answer of Saturn should come 10, for Andromeda Galaxy 1 million and for Quasar OQ172 should be 1000 million.
This question is from the chapter:Standard form with positive indices.
